3 prompts to use with Gong AI to increase renewals and upsells

In the first of our three-part AI prompting series, I wrote about the importance of crafting effective prompts — and how they can extract the right insights to help reps close more deals.
Now, I’m sharing three prompts to help customer success teams drive more renewals and upsells.
I’ve witnessed how access to just one piece of insight from the customer journey can be the difference between losing a customer and unlocking additional revenue.

Prompt 1: Build a winning business case
No business case means no renewal.
So, to build a successful business case:
- Be succinct: Clearly express why your solution is the best choice for their organization.
- Make it realistic: Speak your buyer’s language — use metrics and stats that are relevant to their world.
- Don’t lose sight of ROI: Identify the impact your solution has made. What KPIs, tied to which outcome, did you impact?
Use this prompt to uncover your customer’s priorities, map your solution to these priorities, and craft a more compelling business case.

Prompt 2: Craft a compelling renewal narrative
ROI is key.
But the strongest story wins the renewal.
People remember stories more than flashy stats.
Don’t take my word for it. A study by Harvard Business School found that people are more likely to remember information over a longer period of time when it’s wrapped in an anecdote.
This prompt builds the story for you.

Prompt 3: Identify expansion opportunities
New logos are flashy.
But upsell and expansion drives real growth.
More teams using your product, or the same teams using more of your products, means lower customer acquisition costs, higher retention, and stickier accounts.
When three teams depend on you instead of one, churn becomes a lot less likely.
But before you can add new users or sell product add-ons, you need to uncover additional challenges and identify how your solution can help.
This prompt acts as a metal detector by uncovering upsell moments you may have missed.
Use this to spot opportunities.
Timing is everything, so I recommend using data from the past six months.
